| Mabel Mahlen BAINVILLE, MONTANA - Mrs. Mabel Mahlen, 76, the widow of the late Joel Mahlen, longtime eastern Montana resident of the Bainville community, died Wednesday, May 24, 1989, in Mercy Hospital, Williston. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. MT Saturday, May 27, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bainville. Father Norman Dukart will officiate and burial will be in the Bainville Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. CT Friday, May 26, in the Everson Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, ND. Mabel Clarice Vannatta was born May 1, 1913, in Anamoose to James and Tillie (Vanderberg) Vannatta. As a child, she moved with her family to her father's homestead, north of Bainville. She was raised there and attended local schools. She married Joel Mahlen April 27, 1935, in Bainville. They established their home north of Bainville and lived there through the years. Mr. Mahlen died in 1964. Mrs. Mahlen was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Altar Society. Mrs. Mahlen is survived by six children: Eunice Neshem of Berthold; Ralph of Lake Stevens, WA; Mrs. Kennard (Arlene) Byre of Maxbass; Mrs. Paul (JoAnn) Picard of Flagstaff, AZ; Mrs. Gerald (Donna) Elkins of Bismark; and Joey of Chaska, MN; 17 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four sisters: Helen Hobby of Glasgow, MT; Minnie Mahlen of Williston; Ethel Fitch of Sierra vista, CA; and Pearl Higgins of Williston; and two brothers: Ed Vannatta of Bainville and Leonard Vannatta of Williston. Mrs. Mahlen was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two grandsons. Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at the Everson Funeral Home, Williston and one hour before services Saturday at the church. |
