Mabel Bartels
Funeral Memoriam
April 17, 1913 - September 7, 1997

Mabel was born April 17, 1913, in Williston, the daughter of
Leon and Katherine (Ohnstad) Smith. She was raised and educated
in the Springbrook area and attended high school there. She began
working at Good Samaritan Hospital prior to her marriage on
June 9, 1938 to Herbert Bartels.

She quit working at the hospital to raise her family and help her
husband farm ten miles north of Springbrook. When her children
were in high school, she returned to work at Good Samaritan.
Shortly after Herbert's death in 1971, she moved into Williston
and began working at Family Thrift Center. She retired in the
early 1980's and spent time with her family and grandchildren.
Mabel died at Mercy Medical Center on Sunday, September 7, 1997.

She enjoyed gardening and loved flowers, crocheting, and painting.
She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, the quilting circle,
a birthday club, and a homemakers club.

She is survived by 1 daughter, Marilyn Voldseth of Martinsdale, MT;
2 sons, Carl of Anchorage, AK and Clark of Williston;
1 brother, Arthur "Tommy" Smith of Williston;
2 sisters, Ellen Fay of Williston and Thelma Johnson of Seattle, WA;
17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband,
a daughter, Barbara Mason, 1 sister, Eugenia Hagen and
4 brothers, Bruce, Leo, Harry, and Milton Smith.

Interment:
Riverview Cemetery - Williston, North Dakota
