Mrs. Marie L. Njos was born in Leikanger Sogen, Norway on October 19, 1840.
She came to the United States in 1867, coming first to Rice County, Minnesota,
where she lived for two years. She moved to Kandiyohi County at that time and
in 1869 was married to Lasse O. Njos by Rev. Lars Markhus. Mr. and Mrs. Njos
were the first couple to be married by Rev. Markhus in that congregation.

The union was blessed with eight children, six of whom survive. They are:

her passing.

For the past 70 years Mrs. Njos had resided on the old homestead in Arctander
Township. At the time of her death she was living with her sons, Albert and John.
She had been an active member of the West Norway lake church and its Ladies' Aid.

Despite her advanced age, she was very active up until June 10, 1938 at which time
she suffered a stroke. From this and infirmities attendant upon old age she never
recovered.

At the time of her death on September 25 last she was 98 years, 11 months
and 6 days of age.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 30m at the home at 1:30 and at
the West Norway Lake Church at 2:30. Rev. Baalson officiated, assisted by
Rev. Njus. The choir rendered two songs. There were many beautiful floral offerings
and a large sum of money was given to missions in her memory.

The flower bearers were Louise Heron, Mrs. F. Case, Mrs. Millard Lien and
Adeline Njos.

Honorary pallbearers were John N. Roisum, Andrew N. Henjum, Edward Hauge,
Erick Roisum, Andrew L. Henjum and John H. Henjum. The active pallbearers were

large number of relatives and friends from nearby communities also attended.

Burial was in the West Norway Lake Cemetery.

Mrs. Njos was possessed of a sunny disposition and she never complained through
the many years of joy and sorrow.

Moder kjær, du bort er vandret,
Bort fra sorg of nød og trang
Dine suk er nu forvandlet
Til de frelstes frydesang.

"Hjem jeg lenges," du os lærte
Smaae børn paa moders fang
Al vor sorg og al vor smerte
Svandt da bort i moders sang.

Til dine børn, som ud maa fare
Dine sange du os lærte
Barnestemmer tog dem op
Som i blandet kor vi hørte
Om den "Store hvide flok"

Vore kjære har du fundet
Der i himlens jubelkor
Maa der ingen af os savnes
Naar vor strid er endt paa jørd.

Mindet dit, velsignet være
Troen, haabet, du os gav
Som en blomst fra dine kjære
Kransen lægges paa din grav.
