John P. Heggen
| John was born February 7, 1943 in Vancouver, WA, the
son of Norman and Ivy (Anderson) Heggen. He was raised on a farm near Alexander, ND. He attended grade and high school in Alexander, and earned an Agricultural Engineering Degree at North Dakota State University. Following his graduation from NDSU, he worked as a project engineer and later as a product manager for Melroe Company, where he was awarded four patents for inventions pertaining to the Melroe Bobcat. He also spent two years in the Air Force from 1967-1969. In 1974 he bought the Allis Chalmers dealership at Watford City. he buildt a new building for the dealership in 1975, and has expanded three times since then. He opened his current business because he felt that it was time to come back to this part of the country. In addition to his association involement, Heggen had been a member of the Dealer Advisory Councils for Melore Bobcat and Councils for Melore Bobcat and Lilliston Manufacturing. He is involved in farming near Alexander, and is the owner of Heggen Machine Shop and Heggen Equipment Inc., both in Watford City. John is also involved in numerous civic activities. he is a member and past president of the Watford City Area Chamber of Commerce and the Watford City Rotary Club; Chairman of the Watford City Airport Authority; and Director of the Lewis and Clark Trail Museum. he is also a member of the American Legion, Eagles, and the First Lutheran Church in Watford City. Although his schedule doesn't have too many extra minutes in it, when Heggen does have spare time he enjoys flying, boating, skiing, wood working and meta working. He once married Patricia McKay in 1965 and from this marriage Sarah, Marn, Emily and Renee were born. He later married Karen Gustafson in Watford City on September 26, 1992. Heggen has been married to his wife, Karen for five years. he has three daughters: Sarah Heggen of Arnegard, Marn Heggen of Colorado Springs and Emily Heggen of Dunseith, ND., his parents Norman "Bud" and Ivy Heggen of Rawson, a sister Linda Wold of Watford City and a nephew Shayne Heggen, two step children Robyn Deteinne and Tiffany Sletten both of Billings.
