| Jessie D. Hamann TIOGA, N.D. - Jessie. D. Hamann, 84, of the Blacktail area and widow of the late Gilbert C. Hamann, more recently of McGregor, died Thursday morning, June 24, 1993, at the Tioga Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, June 28, at the Rohde Funeral Home Chapel in Tioga. The Rev. Dean Bakken will officiate. A second service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at Faith Lutheran Church, north of Williston. The Rev. Dean Bakken will officiate and burial will be in the churchyard cemetery. Jessie Darling Burns was born Oct. 17, 1908, the sixth of 10 children to John and Elizabeth (Hyslop) Burns on the family farm near Ayr, .N.D. She was reared on the family farm and attended District 49 School. She graduated from Buffalo High School in 1926. She attended Valley City State Teachers College, where she earned her teacher's certificate. She taught at Hill School in Cass County for two years prior to coming to Williams County, where she taught for two years at Blacktail and one year at Rose Hill. On Oct. 26, 1929, she mamed Gilbert Carl Hamann at Plentywood, Mont. They lived on various farms in the Blacktail area throughout the years with the exception of a number of years when Gilbert was employed on the construction of the Fort Peck Dam in Montana. Mr. Hamann died Dec. 9, 1976. Mrs. Hamann continued to make her home on the farm until three years ago until she moved to McGregor to make here home with her son, Jim, and his family. She had been a resident of the Tioga Medical Center Long-Term Care facility since April 1993. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA. She served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent for several years. She was a member of the Loyalty Rebekah Lodge No. 39 in Williston, the Marmon Homemakers and the Sophisticates Birthday Club. She served as Farmers Union youth leader of the Twin Lake Local for many years. Mrs. Hamann is survived by one son, James Gilbert Hamann of McGregor and his wife, Judy, of the Tioga Medical Center LTC; three granddaughters: Laura B. White and her husband, John, of Williston, Tara R. Hamann of Williston and Kaya M. Hamann of McGregor; one sister, Elizabeth Shimota of Williston; two brothers, Robert Burns and his wife, MariAnna, of Duluth, Minn., and James Burns of Ayr; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hamann was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters and three brothers. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Rohde Funeral Home in Tioga and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. |
