Mrs. Eda Kalstad

Mrs. Eda Kalstad passed away at her home in the Squaw Creek Valley,
in the town of Albion, on May 8, 1932, after an illness of about two
years of diabetes, anemia and complications. She was 70 years, 4 months
and 8 days of age at the time of her death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the home and at the
Squaw Creek Lutheran Church, Rev. CE Skoien officiating. Two
granddaughters, Esther Stenulson and Olive Thompson, acted as flower
girls, five sons and one nephew were pall bearers. Interment was made
in the Squaw Creek Cemetery.

Eda Heggen Kalstad was born on December 29, 1862, at Gausdahl,
Norway, a daughter of Ole Christenson Heggen and Ingebor Nilsdtr
Heggen. She came to America nearly a half century ago and settled in the
Squaw Creek Valley in 1883. She was married in Norway to
John Amuadson Kalstad, who preceded her in death, having passed
away in April 1909.

Four daughters and six sons survive and mourn the loss of their good
mother. They are: Alfred, Henry, Albin, Victor, Louis, Theodore, all of
this vicinity and Louis who lives at Puttenberg, New Jersey;
Mrs Sam Johnson, Mrs Sam Stenulson, Mrs Julius Nelson and
Mrs Chester Ofte. She also leaves two brothers, Ole and Otto Heggen,
of Des Moines, Iowa. One son, Ottar Kalstad, came to an accidental
death within a week prior to that of his Mother, to whom news of his
death was a great shock. Two daughters also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Kalstad had lived for the past forty years in the community of which
her home was part, and had there reared to manhood and womanhood
her large family. She was a deeply devoted wife and mother and a kind
and generous neighbor and friends. She was among the old residents of
the valley and held in high esteem for many fine qualities by a wide circle
of friends. She was a member of the Lutheran Church and a devout
worshipper. The deep sympathy of all goes out to the members of her
family in their sorrow.

Among those from away to attend the funeral were, Ole Heggen and
daughter, Francis Christianson, Otto Heggen and son John of
Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Matt Schaff of Elk Wound, and Mrs Hans
Hendrickson of Eau Claire.
