| The Rev. James Hunter officiated at services
Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home for Fred M. Mahlen, 51, former Great Northern Conductor who died Sunday, Dec. 7, in a local hospital. William Lisenby accompanied Mrs. Cloe Faechner as she sang "Going Home" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers were Vic Peters, Russell Haugen, H.K. Watson, Ted Brady, Martin Knudsvig and John Haas. Burial was in the Highland Cemetery, with Military Rites. Color Guard and Bearers were: Robert E. Jones, Rae Wieneke, Francis O'Donnell, Faye McDonald, John Clontz, Hjalmer Larson, Dick Schaffer and Bryan Dow. Bugler was Mike Farley. The firing squad, from the 778th Radar Squadrom included Sgt. Prosser, Sgt. Cobb, Sgt. Gogolski, A.1. Jenkins, A.1. Longtin and A. Covington. ********************************************************** CARD OF THANKS We wish to take this means of thanking our many friends and relatives for the kind expression of sympathy shown us in the loss of our dear brother, Fred Mahlen. Also for the beautiful flowers and memorials. Special thanks to Dr. Almas and the staff at Deaconess Hospital for the wonderful care given him while he was a patient there. To Pastor James Hunter, the pallbearers, the organist, and soloist, to the military color Guard by VFW and honor guard, U.S. Air Force. Also to the Darrell Mardens, Don Matskes, Paul Picards and Dwight Vannattas for the wonderful hospitality and for the dinner served us after the funeral. Your many acts of kindness will never be forgotten. God Bless all of you.
