Esther M. Stromme

| Esther Mildred Stromme, a long time resident of
Williams County, ND, died, May 6, 2000 at Bethel Lutheran Home where she resided since 1992. She was born June 13, 1916, at the family homestead in Round Prairie Township, ND, the daughter of Alfred and Hannah Mahlen and attended Round Prairie School. As a young woman, she worked in Williston, ND as a waitress at the Luzon Cafe and later was a telegrapher for the railroad at Snowden, MT. On December 12, 1945, Esther was united in marriage to Albert Johan Stromme in Bainville, MT. They farmed in Blacktail Township, ND for many years. Esther's death on May 6 was exactly 33 years after Albert's death on May 6, 1967. Esther worked as a cook at Twin Lakes School in rural Williston and later at the Bethel Lutheran Home, after she moved to Williston in 1970. She moved to the Kensington in 1989, where she lived until she entered the Bethel Lutheran Home. Esther was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid, where she held several positions. She served as a leader of the Happy Hustler's 4-H Club and was active in Farmers Union. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, sewing and visiting with family and friends. She is survived by one son, four daughters and ten grandchildren: Dennis Stromme and his wife, Cathy of Zahl, ND; Phylis Stromme and her daughters; Cara Inlow (Chris), Andrean Carlson, and Jolene Carlson, of Kennewick, WA; Diane Mast and her husband, Gary and children, Esther and Aaron Mast of Millersburg, OH; Jane Bowling and her husband, Chuck, and children, Jessica, Gabriel and Johanna Kukuk of Brewster, OH; Shirley Schlabach and her ,husband Jim, and children, Caleb and Daniel Schlabach of Millersburg, OH. She is also survived by one brother, Syvert (Minnie) Mahlen of Williston, ND; Five sisters: Ella (Leonard) Vannatta, Florence (Russ) Norby, and Myrtle Cain all of Williston, ND; Laura Hovland of Port Orchard, WA and Pearl (Dale) Berwick of Bainville, MT. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Lillian Johnson and three brothers, Joel, Ernest and Fred. Burial: Faith Lutheran Church Cemetery, Williams County, ND |
