Emil J. Engebretson

| Emil J. Engebretson, 84 years and nine months of age
and of the Squaw Creek Community near Black River Falls, passed away Friday evening, October 30, 1959 at the Krohn hospital after a lingering illness. His passing followed a stroke and complications. Emil Engebretson was born January 14, 1875 in Jackson County in the town of Albion and was the son of Randine Heggen and Ole Engebretson. His entire life was spent in the Squaw Creek community. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a lifetime member of the Squaw Creek Lutheran Church. Upon attaining manhood he engaged in farming with the exception of a few winters during which he had employment in a logging camp and a brief period of time when he worked on the railroad. He was united in marriage to Olida Aleckson on April 14, 1910 by Rev. Engh. His wife preceded him in death passing away August 31, 1939. to this union nine children were born. the four living daughters are: Agnes, Mrs Lawrence Tjerstad of Alma Center; Hazel, Mrs Gaylord Peterson of rural Black River Falls; Alva, Mrs Jesse Farrington of Black River Falls; Violet, Mrs Floyd Cox of Taylor; and four living sons are: Donald of Black River Falls; Ralph and Wallace of Janesville, Wisconsin and Irwin of Rochester, Minnesota. One daughter, Mrs Verna Farrington passed away on April 28, 1954. He is also survived by two brothers, Sam Engebretson of Watford City, North Dakota and Reinhart Engebretson of Rochester and fourteen grandchildren. Three sisters and one brother preceded him in death. When his health failed he was cared for at he home of his daughter, Mrs Lawrence Tjerstad. He made his home there since in April of this year. He was at the hospital only one week when his passing occurred. Funeral services for him were conducted from the Squaw Creek Lutheran Church at 2 pm Tuesday, November 3 with the Rev. A. M. Rusten officiation. The ladies quartet of the church sang "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus Name" and the pastor sang a Norwegian hymn. The pall bearers were: Emmett Amundson, Rudoph Amundson, Albert Anderson, Giswald Severson, Alvin Engebretson and Elmer Nemec. Interment was made in the church cemetery. the Ness Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements. Those from away attending the services included: Mr and Mrs Sam Engebretson and Orville, Mrs Harris Olson from Watford City, ND Reinhart Engebretson from Rochester, Minnesota; Mrs and Mrs John Heggen, Mr and Mrs Carl Heggen, Andrew Heggen and Simon Heggen from Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs Myrtle Aleckson, Miss Alice Everson, Mrs Albert Peterson, Whitehall, Wisconsin; Ted Kalstad from Janesville, Wisconsin and Mrs George Farrinton from Bangor, Wis.
