Rawson died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at the McKenzie County Memorial Hospital in Watford City. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Thursday, Jan 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alexander. Pastor Tim Swenson will officiate and interment will be at the Alexander Cemetery. Norman was born Dec 29, 1916, at Rawson, the son of John and Othilla (Olson) Heggen. At the age of four, following the death of his mother, he moved to York, WI where he lived with his grandmother and attended school. He attended the Coyne Electical School in Chicago in 1938, Bud continued to travel back and forth to North Dakota. He worked with the CCC in Watford City. In March of 1941, he entered the United States Army at Fargo. Bud served in the Asiatic and Pacific Theaters during World War II. he served in Europe, Africa and the Middle East and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was united in marriage with Ivy Anderson on Sept. 4, 1942, at Longview, WA. He returned to Rawson in 1945, where he started farming. Bud served as Postmaster for 15 years, retiring in 1973. He also served as Mayor of Rawson for a number of years. He enjoyed a good pinochle game and visiting with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Ivy of Rawson; his daughter Linda Wold and her husband, Lynn of Watford City and a daughter-in-law, Karen Heggen of Watford City; one grandson, Shayne Heggen of Watford City; three granddaughters: Sarah Heggen Lewis and her husband Jay of Rawson, Marn Heggen of Denver and Emily Heggen of Fargo; five step grandchildren: Wade Wold and his wife Dana, Wynn Wold, Wanda Brown and her husband Corey, Tiffany Sletten and Robin Volbrecht and her husband, Cole; two great grandchildren: Kalden Heggen and Ashley Heggen; five step great grandchildren: Chandra Brown, Madison Brown, Abby Brown, Logan Wold and McKenna Volbrecht. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, John; a granddaughter, Renee; two sisters: Mabel and Stella and three brothers: Neil, Howard and James. |
