Francis Bolken
aka Frank Balken

Frank Oliver Balken

Graveside Services for Frank Oliver Balken, 77
were held at the Salmon Cemetery in Salmon, Idaho
on Thursday, April 8, 1993 at 11:00 am with
Lloyd Shaw, American Legion Post No. 67
of Salmon, Officiating.

Mr. Balken passed away April 2, 1993
at his residence in Salmon, after a lingering illness.

He was born on December 7, 1915 in Alexander, ND,
the son of Carl and Gurina Bolken. Frank was the
eldest son and third child, he grew up and attended
school in Alexander, ND. He left home at age 17
and traveled to the northwest. He soon found his
way to the Pahsimeroi Valley and then to Salmon, Idaho.

Frank enlisted in the Army on February 27, 1942
and was Honorably Discharged on December 21, 1945
and came back to May, Idaho.

While in the Army the paperwork was mishandled and
the Army misspelled his last name thus changing
BOLKEN to BALKEN and this was the way Frank
kept the spelling of his last name as Balken.

He worked for the Andrews Ranch at 17 Mile and
finished his working days at the McFarland Livestock
Company outside of Leadore. Frank's motto was,
"When it is rough, it's just about right."

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Burial under the auspices of
Lloyd Shaw American Legion Post No. 67 of Salmon.
Arrangements were handled under the direction of the
Jones and Casey Funeral Home of Salmon, Idaho.
